Terms of Service

Last updated:

These terms apply to everyone who uses Ask the Quad. The first part covers everyone. The second covers founders who order feedback. The third covers students who join the panel. By ordering or signing up, you agree to them.

For everyone

Who runs Ask the Quad

Ask the Quad is run by Matthew Chriss, an individual doing business in Massachusetts. You can reach us at support@askthequad.com.

Who can use it

You must be 18 or older and in the United States.

No university connection

Ask the Quad is an independent business. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by any university.

What responses are, and are not

Responses are opinions from individual students. They are not professional, legal, financial or medical advice. They are not statistically representative research.

No guaranteed results

We do not guarantee that acting on feedback will lead to any result.

Limit on what we owe

As far as the law allows, our total liability for an order is limited to the amount the founder paid for that order.

Refusing orders and removing users

We may refuse or cancel any order and remove any user. If we cancel an order you paid for before delivering it, you get a full refund.

Governing law

Massachusetts law governs these terms.

Changes to these terms

When we change these terms, we post the new version on this page and change the date at the top. Changes do not apply to orders already paid for or to responses already accepted.

For founders

What you get

A Feedback Pack costs $49 in US dollars. For each pack we deliver ten written responses from students to up to five questions, plus a one-page summary, within 48 hours of your payment. The summary is written with the help of AI and checked by a person.

If you ask for a specific group of students, we match as closely as the current panel allows and tell you if we cannot.

You follow your order and read your summary and responses on the Your orders page. You sign in with a link we email to the address you ordered with. There is no password. Do not forward our emails, because the links in them open your orders.

Launch offer

The first three Feedback Packs ordered are half price: $24.50 instead of $49. In return, we ask you a few questions about how the service worked for you. Answer honestly. The discount does not depend on what you say.

Referral codes

If someone gives you a referral code, you can enter it when you order. One code per order, and a code cannot be combined with another offer. The person who gave you the code gets a reward from us when your order is delivered. They are told that an order was placed with their code, not who placed it or what it was about.

If we give you a code to share, tell the people you share it with that you are rewarded when they order.

Responses are private research

Responses are private research for your own decisions. You may not publish them as reviews, testimonials or endorsements, and you may not post them on review sites.

Who owns the feedback

You own the feedback you receive and may use it inside your business. We deliver responses without student names. Each one shows the student's year and major.

What you send us

You must have the right to share whatever you submit. You allow us and the students who answer your order to view it so they can give you feedback.

Confidentiality

Students agree to keep what they see confidential. That is a best-effort promise, not a guarantee. Do not submit trade secrets or anything you could not afford to have leak.

What we do not accept

We reject and refund orders that involve any of these:

Refunds and cancelling

The Refund Policy explains when you get your money back and how to cancel.

For students

Your status

You take part as an independent participant, not as an employee. You choose which requests to answer and can stop at any time.

Pay

We pay $3 for each accepted response. For each order, the two responses we find most useful earn $5 instead of $3. Most useful means the most detailed and clear, never the most positive.

A response is accepted when all of these are true:

If an answer is too thin to be useful, we ask you one follow-up question before we decide. You answer it in your account.

Inviting friends

Your account has a sharing link. When a student signs up through your link and has their first response accepted, we add $2 to your balance. This happens once for each friend.

Payouts

Your accepted responses add up as a balance, which you can see in your account. We send a payout once your balance reaches $15, within 7 days of it reaching that amount, to the PayPal or Venmo account in your account settings.

We cover any fee PayPal or Venmo charges on a payout, so you receive your full balance.

A balance under $15 stays on your account until it reaches $15. If you decide to leave the panel with a balance under $15, email us and we pay it out. To leave, email us.

If we close the panel, we pay out every balance, whatever its size.

Your account and our emails

You sign in to your account with a link we email to your school address. There is no password. Do not forward our emails, because the links in them open your account.

We email you about requests from founders, when we have a follow-up question, and when we send a payout. Not every request is emailed to every student. Your account lists every request that is open to you. You can switch the request emails off in your account.

Your own honest words

Answers must be your own honest opinion, in your own words. Answers written by AI or copied from somewhere else are not accepted and not paid.

Your pay never depends on whether your opinion is positive or negative.

Keeping ideas confidential

Keep founders' ideas confidential. Do not copy them, share them or use them yourself.

How your responses are used

You give us and the founder the right to use your responses, without your name.

Taxes and permission to work

You are responsible for your own taxes. What you earn may count as taxable income. If your pay in a year comes close to the amount we must report to the IRS, we will ask you for a Form W-9.

You are responsible for confirming that you may accept paid work, including under any visa. If you are on an F-1 or J-1 visa, ask your school's international student office before you sign up.

One account each

One account per person. If we learn that someone on the panel is under 18, we remove them.
